Second Life

We're not in Jokaydia anymore. Back to explore and learn...explore and learn...explore and learn...SecondLife was very easy to use since it is so similar to Jokaydia. The original name I chose was Legz13 but wanted to change it back to Madison Monroe which I'm not sure it worked. I then changed my original avatar to one that better achieved my Polynesian roots. I haven't traveled much but did end up at Esme's landmark.

Building Our Platform

Last night a few of us "met-up" and decided to make our own floating platform. Fabian Bird took Aceline and I to JG Builders' Bazaar where we bought some new items. I purchased a rug, balloons, hammock and table. I plan on going back to this location to further explore, in the near future!

Back at Marlboro College, we ran into Esme who then assisted us in creating a larger platform for us to build. Fabian gave great directions to assist me in my building...I kept ending up wearing my objects! I manipulated my carpet by uploading a picture of a minion hitting a volleyball, and then made all of my balloons green to match Fabian Bird's area. Remembering that I had furniture from one of our previous builds, I placed a cherry fish tank by the side of my hammock so I could take a nap!

Final thought for today...

Maybe we would find more success if given partners that we can work with while trying to complete activities. I think it may be beneficial for the first few interactions with the new virtual world to be with someone else- Support

Expanding Horizons Field Trip!

I found the note card Expanding Horizons in my inventory. Once I landed at what seems to be the home page I began exploring and finding my way through explanations of the places I could visit. From here I was finally able to travel to different sections of Jokaydia.
I first went to Classroom I which I found to be fairly interactive and an interesting representation of a classroom. I made my way through numerous rooms that housed a power point, notes and even a sign-in. I didn't stay long because I wasn 't extremely interested in the content. However, I thought this would be a great environment for my students. I think if they were absent and could access our classroom this way they would find the process rather engaging.

The next place I teleported to was Sunrise Bay. I thought this land was rather empty UNTIL I went back and read in the Expanded Horizons room, that tree house platforms are places to work together on informal and formal learning activities. I loved the bay and all the animals that I encountered here!

Our Meet-Up

Last week, several students and I met up on Jokaydia and travelled to Xhesed Veetmet. Here we were able to navigate around and catch up on our Hebrew. One of my fellow classmate's found a section where we were able to change into costumes. I was so excited to find an Optimus Prime outfit that I immediately changed and became a Transformer! However, I was disappointed because once I logged in again I had to change back into Optimus Prime.

1 Jokaydia

Upon my first trip to Jokaydia, I briefly explored the store. Initially I was scared, ran out and waited for my group "date" that Monday. As I logged on to Jokaydia, I was in the middle of waiting for my son's bus to drop him off and learned quickly that once I'm logged in, people know that I'm virtually there.
Upon entering the store, I was amazed at how many styling options were available for us to choose from. I chose two different looks, Jemimal and Reyanel, but then altered them both. I thought that it was fairly simple to change my personality but felt it was a bit more difficult to alter the girls height, hair, make-up and other characteristics. Possibly because I couldn't see me as well from my view?
Once we changed our appearances, we saved landmarks and places that we could travel to. I was excited to visit... and immediately began exploring. Flying has been my most exciting adventure yet. Upon exploration I was amazed to see how life-like the aquariums were!
One difficulty my group had were trying to communicate with one another. Hopefully the next time around will be a little smoother.
