Mi proyecto final.

I designed my final project with my Spanish III students in mind. One of the main goals in foreign language learning is to develop speaking and comprehension skills. Immediately at the beginning of this course I knew that one of the greatest benefits is the ability to meet in a synchronous environment. The virtual world would allow me to communicate in the target language with students that are in geographically different locations. Another great benefit is student-choice! In this project students CHOOSE what they want to create, look like, wear, visit etc.

Attached is my lesson outline which identifies the performance-based indicators for my students Spanish skills as well as immersive learning competencies. The red is so everyone can understand what is being said in English.
To FIND where I created my project the landmark is MARLBORO COLLEGE 161, 233, 22
Each shape holds a script that corresponds to the mission above. All notecards by students should be placed in orange bin. (Ooooops I made it after the picture)

Mission 1: My students had to follow my directions in Spanish in order to obtain a new AVATAR or OUTFIT. DIRECTIONS are located in a script in the PURPLE BOX

Mission 2: DIRECTIONS ARE LOCATED IN BLACK CIRCLE. My students had to describe their new look on a notecard. An example of what I would be looking for in Spanish would be...

Jennifer.LegzdinMission2
Yo soy una mujer. Soy una fantasma blanca y flaca. Yo tengo ojos verdes y pelo canoso. Yo llevo un vestido blanco. No llevo zapatos.

I'm a woman. I'm a skinny, white ghost. I have green eyes and gray hair. I'm wearing a white dress. I'm not wearing shoes.

Mission 3: DIRECTIONS ARE IN BLUE TRIANGLE. I went to where else but the Caribbean- the first one! It was beautiful and I wish I was there NOW!
 Jennifer.LegzdinMission3
Fui a Virtual Caribbeana. Es una isla dedicada al caribe. Yo vi arboles grandes, algunas casas pequenas, un insecto grande y una tortuga.Yo oi pajaros. Me gustaba los bosques, los animales y el oceano pero no hay mucho para hacer.

I went to the Virtual Caribbean. It's an island dedicated to the Caribbean. I saw big trees, some small houses, a big insect and a turtle. I heard birds. I liked the jungle, animals and                                                                                               ocean but there is not a lot to do there.

Mission 4: Directions found in RED RING! Manipulate the weather and climate.

Estaba nevando y era muy tarde. Eran once de la noche.

It was snowing and very late. It was 11 at night.

Thought this was a cool picture!

Fui a Tranquil Cove durante la noche.
I went to Tranquil Cove during the evening.

In the final mission, students needed to build a Prestomatic which is a machine that holds each a picture of each of their photos. I did have trouble when I was trying to manipulate this script. I'm not sure why...Hopefully it works.

My Final Thought: I was pleased with my project and my level of knowledge of JOKAYDIA. I again would use this as a way to collaborate and interact with my students which seems to be quite difficult to do in distance learning!

4/12/2015

So I'm very disappointed because I attended a meet-up in Jokaydia. Unfortunately I can't find my pictures that I had saved! Well... thought I saved. Anyway, I made a table with a rectangular white top and magenta sphere bottom. I learned how to hollow out items which could ultimately be used to make them into rooms. I also learned the importance of zooming in and out which helped while building my table. I needed to check the view from every angle!

Here are some of my MINECRAFT pics along the way.

Assignment 1: North
On my first trip to Minecraft I struggled, A LOT.  I think this pig may have even been laughing at me! I traveled north and learned how to use the directions. Just like the wikis said,
within 10 minutes it was night". No biggie since I was in peaceful mode. However, I met water and quit as I met my demise. I saw only pigs, trees, cliffs and water.

Assignment 2: Creative First Assignment
So I've smartened up and sought help from my thirteen year old nephew who had Minecraft as a PlayStation game. When we began this activity he was extremely pleased because we were able to use many resources that we did not have to "mine for" or "go out and get ourselves". The great part about this assignment was my seven year old son who was as equally excited as my nephew to work on mommy's homework. As we chose different materials and resources, I learned from my nephew that where you place the object corresponds to the numbers on my key pad.
We did see zombies and monsters but none of them attacked us during the night. In fact one that was supposed to blow up on us never did. My nephew was very outspoken and eager to share his vast knowledge with me. According to him he said that the Play Station game is easier because of the handheld controls. At this point if a monster or zombie was attacking me, by the time I figured out how to move...I'd be dead.
This is a picture of the house we built. My son was upset that we did not build a porch!

Assignment 3: Build in Survival Mode
This task took the most time out of the three because we had to mine the land for materials. Once we obtained the materials, we were able to construct this beautiful building. We first took out trees and the looked for holes to mine. From there we created axes and obtained resources for our house. I was very proud to see my son take interest and learn how to place stone to build our walls piece by piece. He really exuded patience and persistence! I also loved watching my nephew take the lead and teach US how to do something he was interested and passionate about. I believe that we did not switch t to peaceful and were attacked by a zombie that we ate! I learned that planning is very important because materials do run out and that it takes time and patience while building. I think this game was created by a perfectionist!

Second Life Meet-Up

Last week, I... well Madison participated in two meet-ups. The second took place in Second Life where as you can see from the pictures, we were a large group. From the house we travelled to Expedition Central where we met another instructor that was also introducing this particular landmark. We exchanged landmark cards and I'm very excited about checking out Machu Pichu! I haven't had enough time to explore BUT plan on spending some of my hard earned cash on a new wardrobe! It was cool to get together around the table at TUPI.

Fuimos a Jokaydia y Construi una caja!

Today we had a class meet-up in Jokaydia. Upon arriving, I changed into my "Female Ghost" outfit because I was still very upset that I had lost my Optimus Prime head on one of my earlier expeditions. As we waited for everyone, we sat and chatted a bit at the fire.
I will say this is a pretty cool picture!

Separated by our comfort and skill levels...I went with the basic group and we created a gift box with ribbon. I didn't think that it was an extremely difficult assignment, in fact it made sense once I place the black ribbon on top of my teal 80's box. I do think that it can be time-consuming having large meet-ups because we ALL struggle at different times.

After our class session I was still disappointed by my missing head situation. I traveled back to Xhesed Vemeet and not only obtained an Optimus Prime outfit BUT I became...

Second Life

We're not in Jokaydia anymore. Back to explore and learn...explore and learn...explore and learn...SecondLife was very easy to use since it is so similar to Jokaydia. The original name I chose was Legz13 but wanted to change it back to Madison Monroe which I'm not sure it worked. I then changed my original avatar to one that better achieved my Polynesian roots. I haven't traveled much but did end up at Esme's landmark.

Building Our Platform

Last night a few of us "met-up" and decided to make our own floating platform. Fabian Bird took Aceline and I to JG Builders' Bazaar where we bought some new items. I purchased a rug, balloons, hammock and table. I plan on going back to this location to further explore, in the near future!

Back at Marlboro College, we ran into Esme who then assisted us in creating a larger platform for us to build. Fabian gave great directions to assist me in my building...I kept ending up wearing my objects! I manipulated my carpet by uploading a picture of a minion hitting a volleyball, and then made all of my balloons green to match Fabian Bird's area. Remembering that I had furniture from one of our previous builds, I placed a cherry fish tank by the side of my hammock so I could take a nap!

One Recommendation

Final thought for today...

Maybe we would find more success if given partners that we can work with while trying to complete activities. I think it may be beneficial for the first few interactions with the new virtual world to be with someone else- Support
